Help!...Uneven incubator temperature

my hovabotor genisis 1588 is driving me crazy ! its constanly saying its at 98 or 97 degrees and i have multiple themometers in there ! whats weomg with it >????

You need to put melted candle wax on the eggs that are cracked. If they are cracked only a little that is. Otherwise throw them out. Just keep a close eye on them.

Can you please post the info on how to calibrate the thermometers? Glad I'm not the only one in this situation and I feel better now after reading this. I've usually had pretty good hatches but when they are for me, I don't worry too much if they all don't hatch. I'm hatching for someone else right now which is why I'm in panic mode.

DanielNV, sounds like you'll be ok too and I hope you have a very successful hatch!

The quick answer is. To calibrate a thermometer, pack a glass full of ice and then add ice cold water and then add the thermometer. After about 10 minutes it should read 32*. If it doesn't, whatever it is off(how many degrees or fraction of degrees) you must also take that same amount plus or minus when figuring the temperature of the eggs.

There is also a way to calibrate the hygrometer.

Try doing a search there is a better discussion of this somewhere.

let me tell you something about incubation temperature. I have hatched countless thousands of pheasant and quail eggs, a few hundred chicken and duck eggs. I have had temp. ranges as much as 98 deg. to 101 deg in my incubators. I have never had a real catastrophe with any hatches in this range. I think people make too big of deal about 2 or 3 degrees. I also had hatches occur in the incubator (not the hatcher) when I forgot to move them to a so called higher humidity area for hatching, and the chicks hatch fine without any problems. Maybe it was just my luck, but I wouldn't worry so much as long as you have them around what we would consider body temperature. Some people would tend to disagree with me, but this is my experience. Just remember in the wild the hen leaves the nest occasionally for a period of time and the chicks hatch out OK. Just MOHO.
