Hello, my turkey looks like he is dying. Today, I went in to feed everyone and he was lying on the ground with his head under his wings. I thought that he was dead, but then I noticed that he is still breathing. He did not move when I touched him. The last few days, I have noticed that he hasn't been squawking, just kind of clicking. normally he is very talkative, so I thought it was odd, but I didn't know if it was a cause for concern. then, yesterday, he lost a lot of feathers. And now today, he is lying on the ground. I don't know what to do, or if anything even can be done at this point. If anyone has any advice, please tell me. He is a big bird and I am a small girl, all alone (husband in the military). I don't even know if I can pick him up... Also, we don't have a lot of money, if I take him to a vet, how much do you think they would charge? My husband might not think it's worth it to take a turkey to the vet.... please help.

I can't help you much. The only thing I can say is, GET THAT TURKEY TO A VET NOW. I can't say for how much it will cost for you, I know it's thirty to take a cat in, it might be less for a turkey, it might be more. If this turkey's life depends on it, only you can decide if it's worth it. Also take into consideration the fact that the vet might not be able to do anything. I think it might be your only chance. That sounds like a VERY sick bird.

If you're worried he will struggle, try throwing a blanket over him. Birds usually don't struggle unduly if they have their heads covered. Put him in a crate if you have one. If not, a wrapped blanket might do. Use caution when handling him, especially if he is a large tom.

Sending prayers.
