I have 9 coturnix quail. I thought that my two goldens were roosters and all the others were hens, but I thought wrong! I have a brown male too. Im going to look at a color guide in a while. So should I split my males up? there are three and I have three cages. They didnt seem to fight until now. Also a few of my quail have something wrong with there eyes. There eyes are kind of droopy and they dont open them all the way! What is this? I just noticed it this morning!

quails get alot of bad press of males fighting

if they not fighting now leave them they should be fine

I just went through a similar situation.

I have ten Corturnix. I thought only one was male until I saw a second quail mount a female. UH OH! I thought to myself. Eight females is not enough for multiple males. But they weren't fighting so I thought I had a few days to figure something out....

WRONG! The next morning I came out to find my main boy Thor scalped with wounds all over his neck and the upcomer Ghost with a deep neck puncture. They have both been taken out separately and are recovering but heed my warning, trouble is on the way! You need more girls or less boys.

I am selling three of my roosters. I am not going to get anymore hens unless absolutley neccesary. They are in a 2 hen to 1 rooster ratio now. Is that okay? I dont know where to get more I bought them at and auction and dont know when there will be another one.

2 hens to 1 roo is not enough hens

maybe you can hatch some out to increase the flock

they mature real quick

one thing known is out of sight out of mind

males will live fine together if they cant hear or see females

so separate them till you have more quails

or then just process them for a small snack
