How high off the ground do the marks start and stop?
I would guess those are chewing marks, not claw marks. Squirrel or rat. Coons don't have the sharp broad incisor teeth for chewing, ditto on skunks and most of the cat type predators or possums. I would pick up some galvanized steel sheet metal roll flashing from the big box store, even rodents can't shew galvanized sheet metal.
