My boy picked this girl up at an auction last summer labeled "turken"... well, she is obviously... not a full blood. These photos were from February. I had posted online how cute his Lil "showgirl" was and was told she isn't, that she may be a satin? Could anyone shed some light please? He would REALLY like to possibly use her for a showmanship prospect in poultry for 4H, so if anyone would have any insight or advice on that also... thank you so much in advance.

He has always worked with OEGB, which he has raised since he was 6... so definitely a new interest as far as look.

I see why you're asking. Very unique bird. I don't know much about NN, but this one makes me think NN x Polish....specifically the white crested black variety.

Reason why: WCB Polish are a variation of the mottled gene. The white tips in the crest could easily be from that. I had a mottled houdan hen that we hatched eggs from, with my gold penciled hamburg.

the offspring...we got 2 of them.

Mottling is recessive so it doesn't show....much..... one of the offspring had 2 white feathers on one side after her 1st adult moult. The next year, she popped lots more. The mottling bled through. She looked pied (like a black and white paint horse). Dunno if the FIL still has her (the birds were MIL'S), but am hoping so. I want a good pic of the later moults.
