UP NORTHIN BAMA!!!
Well I know this is gonna be a stupid question, but how can you tell a duck egg from a chicken egg? I have quite a bit of chickens that are laying and I have two chocolate Muscovy ducks who are in the laying age now. I have never had ducks before and this is a new experience. My girls will go and sit on the chicken eggs, but im unsure if either of them are laying. Can someone tell me what size or color the eggs would be, or maybe post a pick so I can see if indeed they are laying? thanks!!

I have muscovies, standard chickens and bantam chickens. These are the eggs I blew out a few days ago.

Left: muscovy. Middle: New standard chicken layer. Right: bantam chicken.

The color of the duck won't change the color of the egg. Eggs will be white. Some of my girls lay eggs with a green tint.

My duck eggs are HUGE! The smallest ones are the size of a jumbo chicken egg. They are also much more slimy and usually dirtier than the chicken eggs. If you want to know for sure build one nest box on the ground and one about 4-5 feet up. The ducks won't fly up to nest.
