Yesterday where I live we had record heat. The temperature was almost ninty degrees and I had the heat lamp on my baby chicks in the coop. The baby chicks were very hot, they imediatly drank all the water when I gave it to them. After I turned off the heat lamp and the chicks were fine, all except on. This morning that one chick is on its side, still breath and alert but will not stand, eat or drink. Does anyone know what I should do. Please help me.

Thanks,
Chicken Dave

I was worried about that same thing yesterday, we actually had weather in the upper 80's here. I turned my lamp off too, and gave them some cool water. They were all on the far side of the brooder away from the lamp, practically in the water dish! They all seemed fine after I turned off the lamp and refilled the waterer, but I hope someone knowledgeable jumps on here soon, I'd love to know for future reference!

I hate to say this but the same thing happened to a few my chicks like a month back, they did not make it. they got heat stroke. just make it drink water stick its beak in the water put some suger in the water, this might help it get a boost a bit.

Make sure you chicks/chickens never run out of water! This is really important on hot days! I can'tbelieve how much they drink sometimes!!
I agree that is could very well be heat stroke. I would try to make it drink water.

Good News!!! She is already doing better. I gave her some water with sugar in it and she is now standing up and trying to get the water herself, before i was dipping her beak in the water and she would drink. Thanks for all the help!
