My 6 yr old Australorp hen, has had diarrhea, is very lethargic, and has no appetite. This seems to come on when the temperature dropped. We thought maybe she caught cold, so we brought her inside. Then we thought maybe she was broody, because she would come out of her cage in the morning drink and then sit in the middle of the room.
She has been inside for a couple days now and has gone from eating a little to not eating. She is normally a very healthy spunky girl. I have not started treating her yet, because I am not sure what to do.Should I start with probiotics, or antibiotics or?

Poor girl, she looks like she feels poorly.

Do you know when her last egg was?

I'd check her crop, see that it's emptying. Look for signs of lice/mites and consider getting a fecal float to rule out worms.

If she should have laid an egg and hasn't, then I'd start giving extra Calcium for several days to see if that helps. 1 Calcium Citrate+D3 tablet right into the beak and let her swallow.

Work on hydration, giving a little sugar water or electrolytes.

As soon as I picked her up I realized she was laying in a wet spot. And she smells now. That's from last night. Also when I picked her up this weird thing fell off her bottom. I imgine it came out of her. Any idea what it is? See photo below. She is so much weaker than yesterday. :( I started giving her water with electrolytes with an eye dropper. Yesterday she was drinking on her own today she won't. Her crop is empty and squishy.I don't think she has eaten anything in 48 hours.
She hasn't laid an egg in probably a of couple months, but that's not unusual for this time of year.

I'm sorry she's getting weaker.

The object/material that fell off her, looks like it may be Lash material (Lash Egg/Salpingitis). If you still have it, cut it open to see if it has a layered look inside.

Crop empty and squishy - does it feel like liquid or just soft/mushy?

I'd try giving her Calcium to see if she needs to expel any more material. If you have an antibiotic on hand, you may want to see if that makes a difference.

The wet spot - does it smell like ammonia or acrid urine? Don't know how else to ask.

acrid urine, here is a picture of the material cut in half.

That looks like Lash material.

She may be having a hard time expelling more, so the calcium may help with that.
An antibiotic may help with the inflammation and make her feel better for a period of time.
It's very hard to know if either of these will make a difference, there's so many factors that can affect the outcome.

I'd still work on hydration, encourage her to eat, give a few tid bits of things she may enjoy - egg, tomato, sardines...

She's failing and it's heartbreaking, I'm sorry. Supportive care may help her along for a while, but she may also continue to decline.

You mention it's cold, so she's been inside for several days? If it warms or is warmer she may like being outside with or near her flock for periods of time. If she's been separated out for a while, they may pick at her, you'd have to watch for that.

I looked up Lash Egg, and that looks that's what it is, however, it has dried up. What treatment should I Do? antibiotic and vitamin D and calcium?
