I have a baby chick who was hatched a day later than the others and never started feeding on its own. It's now 5 days old and I have been syringe feeding it for the past 2 days but I can't do this forever. How do I get it to feed itself? I have tried putting the chick crumb on the floor and taped it with my finger but it just goes to get under something and sleep. I also tried some sugar water on day 3 but it just stayes under the brooder.

Has anything worked? I have a chick that I am having this issue with. He unfortunately lost an eye from being attacked right after hatching. He is strong and will eat and drink from a syringe. But this can’t go on forever!! Did you find anything that worked?

I fed her for 5 days every few hrs and then I needed to be out of the house for the day and so I left her to fend for herself and she started eating on her own. I'm not sure when I could have stopped feeding her but I mixed her food ground up with water and fed her that with some vitamin water. She is now a happy chicken and outside with the rest of them but is a little smaller than the others.
