So I am very new to this form and I just got 8 little chicks. They all seem very healthy except for one. This one just sleeps most of the day and stays away from the rest of the group most of the time. She does eat and drink often though. is this anything to be concerned about? I just got her
700

Monday. I fed her some boiled egg yolk just a couple minutes ago and some sugar water can I feed her Anything else? I don't have any chick grit yet..

If you don't have chick grit you shouldn't have fed her ANY THING except the starter food.

What are the temps int he brooder? Is she going to the bathroom as well? Any blood?

There may be grit in the food I am not sure. She has perked up quite a bit since I gave her the yolk and she pooped as well. No blood.

If its regular chick food there isn't grit in it.

They can eat that food without grit- that's true.

But if you give them any thing else they WILL need grit as well

A cute Buff Laced Polish! I hope she gets better!

Thank you Natalierose I am going to a chick supply today and will see if there is chick grit. Thank you for your help

If you are not at the store buying grit right now just go out and pick up a handful of dirt from the yard (or dig for it if you have a well manicured yard with no dirt showing) and they will utilize that. That also helps to expose them to the stuff they will be exposed to once they are out and about. They need the grit as soon as possible "grit" is just small rocks and pieces of dirt that helps to grind their food.

Yeah just sprinkle it on the food like salt, if you give an egg sprinkle it over the egg too. Some people just dig up a bit of grass with dirt attached to include the grit availability. They instinctively want the grit and will ingest it as needed.
