i have 3 week old aurecanas and light brahmas. one of the brahmas was pecked on the tail. it started to bleed so i separated her to let her heal and keep them from pecking her more. what can i put of the area-ointment ?

also, i have four hens that are a year and a half old. how and when do i introduce the chicks to the coop-when is it safe-at what age can they defend themselves?

thanks,

I have use neosporn and it seemed to work great! and start off by putting them in the coop when there ready to go out there but seperate them from the older ones with a fence so they can interact without getting hurt for about a week then let them together outside in the morning and let them run around all day together and let them get used to wach other and go from there.

There is a product called Blue Kote, it comes in pump, spray or dauber, that is very good for that type of problem. It's antibacterial/antifungal and it stains the sprayed are blue. Chickens go after anything red, so this is a good thing. As far as introducing them to your older birds, as the other poster stated, introducing them slowly through a fence is a good idea, allowing them to get accustomed to each other's presence at a safe distance. I would wait until your chicks are nearly the same size as your original flock before introducing them - initiation can be quite hard on the newbies. Good luck!
