So I just found a bird nest that fell out of a tree it looks like a junco chickadee or house finch it was on the ground and only one egg remained I put it in a cardboard box and put it high on a post the top of the cardboard box was open was this the right thing to do?

Can you post a pic of the nest and egg, and candle the egg? I would doubt the parents will come back. If you want to save it contact your state Game Fish and Parks office, or a wildlife rehabilitator.

No it was definitely not abandoned after it fell one egg remained and the mother was still sitting on it

So imagine a ferry egg that came from a quail that's pretty much the size and it had these dots on one end they were white I was almost definitely sure it was a junco or possibly a house finch. But I'm pretty sure it's a junko.

Where do you live? Juncos are all black birds (more like sooty grey) with a few white tail feathers. They only nest up in Alaska usually.
Edited to add, we only sometimes have dark-eyed juncos here and these go to Alaska to nest. I'm not familiar with the other junco types.

California let me send a pic of the junco

Ok. I would just say watch and see if the mama comes back. If she does, that's awesome! If she doesn't don't beat yourself up though, you did great for trying to help mama out.
