My silkie has gone broody on me several times but until now I havent let anything come of it. Yesterday she nipped at me when I went to take her egg, and decided to just let her keep it since we are planning on using the bator anyways next month.
Today she had that egg, the egg she laid today, and 2 of my standards egg (the girls like to get into Snowballs nesting box and lay there so she can sit on them

I was really excited but when I just went out there in the dark to put her into a crate with the eggs she wasnt in her normal nesting box on the eggs and they were all very cold. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. She didnt seem to mind me in the coop until I scooped up the eggs and put them in my pocket, then she freaked out.

So, tomorrow should I go ahead and ger her into the crate earlier and put the other eggs in there with her to see what happens or give it another go of her sitting in her own nesting box until night time then seeing where she is at.

Is it normal for a hen to just get up and walk off?I know they get up to eat, drink, poo but she completely moved away from them poor little eggers. Would I be better off just waiting until next month and using the bator instead of her? Did she do it bc she has never been allowed to stay on her eggs before? My other girls dont show any sign of being broody and none of them ever have been before, they dont even seem to care what comes of their eggs.

Sigh. This sucks, i was so excited to hear baby cheepins in 3 weeks
