I was worried about one egg so I read the assisted hatching thread and made a little hole then carefully peeled the shell back around the air cell. I could see through candling that the chick hadn't even absorbed the yolk sac.

Once I had the shell open enough I could see the chick wasn't moving at all. It had become shrink wrapped.

It's sibling might be in the same predicament. It is still alive, must be still absorbing the yolk sac as it's making eating movements with its beak, but is the membrane supposed to be so close around them? I can see it's not finished pulling in all the blood either. I don't know what to do. I put some coconut oil on the membrane to keep it moist.

you could put some coconut oil on the membrane to help soften it. also up the humidity, put in a paper towel soaked in warm water. best not to pick at the shell any more you will do more harm than good.

There's coconut oil on it. The membran did seem a little dry, which worried me because it looked like a picture I'd seen of a shrink wrapped chick. The picture was taken through the viewing window so it's in the incubator.

Coconut oil on membrane, temp at 99.5/100, humidity between 65 and 70 (might be slightly higher as I think the incubator's hygrometer is slightly off and had to take mine out so chicks wouldn't mess with it).

Yup. Still a bit worried, though. You can't see it in the previous picture but in this one you see blood pooling around it's head. Also, someone said it is malpositioned so it may need help eventually.

I'm worried now that it may have broken a vein. And with all the other veins still big and whatnot it's not like i can try and go in and staunch the flow if that's what's happening :/

No, it doesn't. I don't think it was. I'm pretty sure it's gone, probably bled out.

10 eggs left to hatch. The second chick hatched alat 1:25pmEST. I just took it out so it could snuggle in a warm, dry washcloth with its clutchmate. Both are super content right now ^_^
