Hi there. I teach 4th graders and decided to incubate duck eggs for the first time. I live five minutes from my school. Since I started incubation, I have unplugged my incubator and brought it home with me on the weekends to be able to turn them and keep the humidity where it needs to be. Then, I bring them back on Monday mornings. We have 12 duck eggs and as of today, day 24, I still see movement in all eggs. They are supposed to start hatching next Tuesday. The last couple of days I have seen where the ducklings are starting to try to break into the air sac. I thought I was to put them in lock down on Saturday which is three days before they are to hatch. My incubator is telling me to put them on lock down today, because it’s showing day 3. My question is, if I put them on lock down today at my house, will it be ok to unplug the incubator on Monday morning, and quickly move it to my classroom five minutes away even if some ducklings have started to pip? I’m so worried my students will miss out on this wonderful learning experience. Please advise me on what’s the best thing to do. Thank you so much.
