Help with gender and breed of adolescent...

Asking for a friend -- this chick was bought at a feed store and originally came from Hoover's Hatchery. We are trying to figure out the gender and breed and think it maybe a California White (Hoovers sells those). The chick supposedly came from a bin labeled EEs.​

Also does this look like a pullet or a cockerel?​

Am surprised a feed store would sell straight run sex links! Course I guess the Covid chick shortage made all chicks hot sellers especially for new chicken keepers.

They sometimes pawn off males as ‘free extras’ or as a different breed.

At my tractor supply all of the males go I to the straight run bin.
