This is my first year gardening and I planted some peas a couple of weeks ago (from seedlings) . one of the plants already has two whiteflowers on it and I am thinking that a 6 or7" plant shouldnt be allowed to flower yet? Also I planted some mustard seeds and those things are huge already and taking over my herb patch...does anyone know how big mustard actually get? I will probally have to move them already. Thanks!

My Peas did the same thing last year. Being in Florida I imagine y'all probably have similar humidity and warmth we do in southeast Texas. I put tomato cages over my peas last year and let them vine up those and boy did they. I planted 6 seeds at the base of each tomato cage.
My mustard plants did get rather big last year too. They will need about 2 square feet to stretch out from what I learned last year.

A good book my grandmother gave me called Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew helped me a lot. I use it now to give me a better idea of how much room something needs to spread out. I can't use that method this year but maybe next year. I just started my peas a week and a half ago with some other veggies and herbs. I love gardening. I feel good knowing I can grow our healthy food and supplement the grocery bill too.

Good luck with your first garden

Mustards will get big, so an herb garden is probably not best place if the other plants need light. Of course, if you just keep harvesting the big leaves, it will not be such an issue.

Peas are not gonna perform for long here... It gets too hot too fast: go ahead and leave those flowers, because they may be all you get! Beans did MUCH better for me in Central FL. Maybe some shade cloth will help you keep those peas longer...

Florida gardening is bass ackwards from most of the country: the department of agriculture has a planting guide, and as I discovered as I went through my seeds, nearly everything is considered a Fall crop.... Sigh....

I'll see if I can find you a link.
