Hope this is the right place. I have a flock of 7. 6 hens and a roo. My maran and 2 Favorelles are 1.5 years old. They were originally raised with Xander who turned out to be a roo. Last February he became more and more aggressive so he was found a new home. After this the 3 ladies did great all back feather grew back in and the Favorelles started to brood. We gave then 2 chicks to raise a silkie and polish in May. They did great. Great mama's. I was also given a teenage Americana and Turkin. All have gotten along great .however the polish turned to be roo and he is a good boy but a bit clumsy. He only seems interested in the Favorelles and Turkin, the maran and Americana are not having it. He doesn't mess with the silkie actually very protective of her.
Anyhow my Favorelles are starting to lose feathers on back again and one lost weight after brooding in August. Working on her weight.
So my question is : 1. should I keep him separate at night to give them a break? My set up is a bit unique. I have a huge Avery in which i have 2 small coops in which they only go in to sleep are in the Avery or backyard all day long. The Avery is actually big like a barn, their coops are in there as well as my tortoises habitat. It's just metal like a cage (See pictures). I put 3 in one coop and the roo with his mamas (Favorelles ) and sister silkie.I hate that the girls are starting to loose feathers and worried the thin one is stressed, she does seem to run from him whenever he comes around. Everyone ranges together and roost well
2: Tried the aprons and girls freaked is there anything else I can try ?.
