I am new to chicken keeping. I have a mix of breeds, seven hens and 1 rooster. He is a Buff. Orpington. We got them as chicks and I was primarily the one to take care of all their needs. The are currently 8 months old. When they were 3 months old I injured myself and was unable to walk for 6 weeks, I could do none of their care. They do free range and I would be able to sit outside and interact a bit with them. It has been a long recovery process and I am still not able to do things like run, squat, or kneel. I am able to do all of their care at this time. The rooster has attacked me. He flogged at my bad leg and I am unable to run towards him or to get him down on the ground as I have seen others suggest. I know I did the wrong thing because I just yelled out at him and used my good leg to push him away from me. He then turned from me and I got out of the area. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to deal with this. He has also bite my foot, this is the first flogging. Prior to my getting injured I had no problems with him and he was very friendly and would sit on my lap for long periods of time. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I hate to tell you this, but you are probably not going to be able to change him. You will probably have to

1. Relocate him
2. Cull him
or
3. Don’t be in the same space as him without some sort of tool (long thick stick, broom, etc) to keep him off of you.
Yep, I agree with you.
I had an aggressive rooster that refused to be nice.
He dead now.

He’s just a teenager, there’s a good chance he’ll grow out of it, I think kicking him back wasn’t such a big mistake. But I don’t know, when I had a fighting cock I made him into soup.
