Complete chicken newbie here. My chicks don't arrive till the week of May 23 *SO excited*, so my hubby and I are still trying to figure out how to do the run. The coop will be 12x12, and we are attaching a 24x24 covered run. The coop will be delivered in the next 2 weeks (we have no building skills- went w/ pre-fab)and we are doing a gravel base for it, as it is still too early to pour concrete. So, I am confused as to what might be the best situation for the run. Should we pour concrete, or do sand over the existing ground, as soon as it is dry enough? I have read some pros and cons of both here on BYC, and I am so confused!
We have lots of predators- We live on a farm in a rural area, so that is a major concern. I also want the chickies to enjoy their run- I don't think it is safe to let them free range. I also want the run to stay as clean and dry as possible. This is totally new to us- I have about a gazillion other questions, but I wanted to get some thoughts and opinions on how I can do the best run and coop. I'd LOVE to hear from you BYCers! Thanks, everyone!!
