Does anyone know if it OK to ship 3 week old chicks?
I hatched out 7 Wade Jeane black copper maran chicks but DH says we can't keep any more chicks

.
So I put them on Craigs list in San Diego and someone 450 miles away wants them shipped to him. We are in California so it is not too cold.

Is it Ok to ship birds of this age? and if so how is best. The guy is very keen to get them.
Any ideas?
Thanks

526.4 Adult Fowl
526.41 General
Disease-free adult fowl may be mailed domestically when shipped under applicable law in accordance with DMM 601.1.7. Adult chickens, turkeys, guinea fowl, doves, pigeons, pheasants, partridges, quail, ducks, geese, and swans are mailable when properly packaged. Adult fowl must be packaged without food or water because liquids, moisture, and loose foodstuffs can cause damage to the shipping container, other mail, and Postal Service equipment during transport.

526.42 Mailability Requirements
The specific types of adult fowl listed in 526.41 and DMM 601.9.3.4 are mailable only when sent by Express Mail service under the following conditions:

The mailer must secure containers approved by the manager of Mailing Standards (see 608.8.0 for address).
The number of birds per parcel must follow the container manufacturer limits, and each bird must weigh more than 6 ounces.
Note: A list of the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of the companies that manufacture Postal Service-approved containers is published periodically in the Postal Bulletin and can also be obtained from the PCSC.

526.43 Claims for Adult Fowl
Indemnity claims for mailable types of adult birds and chickens sent via Express Mail service are paid only for loss, damage, or rifling, and not for death of the animals while in transit, if there is no visible damage to the mailing container. See DMM 601.9 and 609.

They are too small and wouldn't survive the trip.

I think most shippers ship at about 4-6 weeks of age. Mine were shipped at 4 weeks in a Horizon shipping box. I bought a pair and they made it just fine. It got pretty cold and I was worried about them, but they did fine. Personally, I would make sure the weather was right before shipping.

They are too young. It is also worth bearing in mind that although it might be warm where you are, chances are it won't be en route or possibly at their destination in February.

Be very careful selling to anyone on Craigslist who wants to ship an item, have a 'moving company' pick it up, or will send you a check/cashiers check/money order. I've been selling off a bunch of old horse items on there, and I get these scams over and over and over. I'm not saying for sure you're being scammed, but it happens way too often. Most of the time they do not even know what the item is they are asking for, they just target a fairly high priced item, won't ask any questions or even care about seeing photos if you did not post any; and they just want you to send it to them, and they will send you the money, and 'accidentally' overpay you and ask for a refund...then you find out it was a fake check in the first place after you have sent them their refund. It's getting hard to sell anything on craigslist anymore, unfortunately. It's safer to insist on cash only payments and local pick up. The last one I got was someone with a job listing, I sent in a resume to them, and they sent me a thing saying they wanted me to work from home, they would send me checks and shopping lists to go to Walmart and buy items to be donated to orphanages/schools/charities of all sorts, and then they'd pay me to package the things up and send them...turns out they were sending out fake checks and having the items they wanted to buy shipped to themselves! (I didn't get tricked, I just did a little research because it sounded too good to be true--$2,000 a month pay promised for doing this?!)
