Hello,
Are my chickens dumb?
I just moved my kiddies out of the brooder and into their new chicken mansion but its getting really cold in Arizona at night and they are not exploring their cozy roost.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

They will be happy up there and will soon get the idea if you place them on the roosts. it may take a few attempts but they will soon snuggle up.

Jena.

Sometimes if you make a ladder or walkway that is not to steep it is easir for the young ones to go up and down.

To just expand slightly on what Jena says, go out there after dark and pick 'em up and put 'em on their roosts. They'll wake up there in the morning, and after a day or week of it they generally get the message

Also, what is the roost like, is it possible there is something uncomfortable about it?

Good luck,

Pat

How old are they? I gave up trying to get my frizzled cochins to roost and all of a sudden they are doing it on their own at 19 weeks.

What kind of chicks are they? How old? and how high up are the roosts?
