help with toenaile problem

I read more than I post, but I lost my precious Reddi last week after taking her to the office with me for 5 days to medicate and feed. Now, I am over worried, I am sure. I came home yesterday after being gone a couple of days and my Buff Orp (4 years old and very healthy) had the outside toe nail turned all the way to the side. No blood or anything. This afternoon, the nail is turned straight out, but up. It looks like it is poking the toe itself. She is limping. The toe looks like there is a little dried blood. Is it a good idea to put an antibiotic like Neosporin on it after cleaning? Thanks!

Could you try and take a picture of her foot/toe? I have a hen whos nailes are curved to the side but I can't picture a nail going and poke the toe itself. Please post some pictures if you can.

Might have tore the nail. We have to periodically trim our girls nails because they get so long. Had one girl actually rip a nail out. Bled for a bit and was sore for a day or two but she is fine now. Now we try to keep all their nails trimmed to a reasonable length.

I have a couple with nails that grow curving upward, have a couple whose nails got ripped out somehow and have never grown back. The ones that curve upward....I trim. The ones with the injury, I washed with betadine mix (tea-like strength), then put antibiotic ointment (nothing with pain reliever or 'caine') and/or bag balm on the nail. Used bloodstop if still bleeding. Oh, I have also sprayed blu-kote on some toenails and spur injuries after cleaning.

Thanks for the info. I think she broke it off from the toe itself, but it hasn't fallen off. Her nails are pretty trim and short. It is blackened from dried blood from what I can tell, but I don't think it is bleeding now. She just sits all day or stands on one leg holding up the injured foot. Looks like a flamingo. I will clean it again today and put some balm. Thanks again!
