I done know the day they were on exactly because my broody duck set them for me and after a dog got into the pen she was upset she stopped caring for them
I Had to act quick but I thought it was to late they were going cold but I made a diy incubator and got them in ASAP
Things went well and after a few days I started candling and all were alive I was thrilled
SSo many days passed but I had guessed they were around day 7 when I candles the 1st time and I have been go ogling everything like crazy and I have eggs I set in there myself they have 5 days till day 20 so from my time line I came to think they were about day 18 on Tuesday so today is 20 I think last night at 11pm I candled carefully and didn't turn the egg and saw 1 had pipped internally so I went to bed hoping to see some progress in the morning or even a chicken but nothing
Now my diy incubator has been doing amazing but has a humidity issue for hatch days it seems perfect till them
So back to the egg
I looked again knowing it's better maybe I didn't ... but anyways I say moment and progress and it's chirping now sounded clear as when I first checked it kinda sounded wet Idk if wet is a good work but new as if it had just gotten through and started working on breathing but now at 7 am 8 hours after I saw the internal pip I was worried air would run out and here is where I may have messed up
I Poked a tiny hole where the chicken had been working for air and the membrane looked good so I started a zip not to big but stopped when I saw some small blood vessels still I have also noticed some dryness know it's membrane right when I was able to see in not much but a Lil and so I think it's possible either I did that or that the humidity issue is responsible
So I got a cloth and now I cut out enough to cover the hole but leave it's beak free it's chirping n moving and now it's 9 am so 2 and a half hours after I messed with it... (I feel so badly) and it's OK and the vessel look like they are getting smaller but to me it's seeming like it's a battle between drying out and the wetness having a chilling effect
It is in the incubator and I check ever 10 Mins to see if I need to re wet the cloth and see how things are
So what should I do here please tell me I didn't kill the baby I'll never forgive myself
I'll post pics soon after I check again
