I have 2 ducks with 12 chicken they get along great I have two enclosed areas and a box outside in an enclose chicken wire the ducks refuse to use any of the boxes

Yes. Welcome to ducks. Mine do the SAME thing. You could try putting a bunch of duck eggs in the boxes and seeing in they will use it.

I use dummy eggs to get my ducks to put eggs where I want them to. Even ping pong balls work, my ducks aren't picky. They also seem to enjoy making nests out of straw/hay so I give them a bunch of that, drop a couple dummy eggs in the middle and they lay there reliably!

Ditto what @KaleIAm said! Nine times out of ten mine will lay in the spot with the dummy eggs, but I still find a random egg in the pen about once or twice a week.

How cold does it get? What kind of ducks do you have? Most ducks are hardier than chickens.

Despite my best efforts the first year, making lovely nesting boxes, my Muscovy ducks refused to use them. Then, and since, they prefer to arrange their own nests in the coop. I'll still occasionally find a random egg in the run and even in their kiddie pool in the summer.

I have 12 laying ducks. Some will lay where the eggs already are, but not all of them. I have random eggs on the ground every day.

Yup, my ducks rotate through all the bushes in the yard to lay. It’s a daily hunt to find them.

My Runners just let them drop out as they are moving around. [Takes too long to stay in one place waiting for the egg to come out. ]lol
