I'm new to this site and I'm really hoping I can find some answers here. I have only had ducks for about 3 maybe 4 years now. I started with a male Indian runner, then my husband rescued a female Muscovy. Long story short she hatched eggs that following July unfortunately my bass found most of them to be delicious. I now have one male and two females, my females wing and tail feathers look horrible like skeletons I have checked for mites, dirty/clogged oil gland, I have started giving them more protein and still nothing works. I have done research on when they molt thinking maybe that might be it and I'm just not sure. It's just my females Mo the male is doing great. This will be there second winter I worry that they won't make it with there feathers in the shape that they are in. You may have to zoom in to see they are not to social they will eat from my hand on there terms but it's a trick to catch them.

I agree with Miss Lydia. Before a molt, wing and tail feathers can naturally get quite ratty. My ducks have just gone through or are about to go through a molt and my muscovies' tail feathers were a mess before, as are my pekins' wing feathers. But the feathers are a year old, so no wonder they are "thread bare"

Hopefully it's just molt keep an eye on them and let us know when you see new feathers appearing. Also up their protein since that helps with feathers too. Dried mealworms dry dog or cat food given as a treat can help.

My runners seem to be pretty much through the worst of the molting. My black drake still has some white pin feathers on his wings.

However, some of my chickens look like they will be pretty cold if they don't step up their feather production pretty quick!

Same here I have some partially naked chickens right now.

My lady's feathers haven't got any better I got them some feather fixer pellets hoping it would help and meal worms as a treat but they went through a 40pound bag and I can't see much change to there feathers 😔
