My new chick is having problems today. For one, he can't eat or drink by himself. Another thing is that his wing is almost touching the ground. The chick can hardly walk and he walks like he's drunk. His pecking is off and also, one of his eyes won't open. I'm not sure that he will make it.

Please help

Separate this chick immediately and any others who show the same symptoms. But I think this bird is dehydrated and you need to get fluids in.

Did you teach this chick to drink by gently holding her in one hand and dipping beak in water- avoid the nares!

She has to drink, even if with a dropper at the tip of his little beak to encourage sipping. Avoid the nares.

Could be infectious.

What is the source of these birds?

Sometimes a chick will accept starter crumbles dampened with water (no sugar) and this can be force fed. Sugar with feed can cause dehydration.

I got them from Mt. Healthy. Yes, I seperated him from the rest and I have yet to see anymore that are acting like him. I'm not sure why his eye wont open though. I am also feeding him mushy food but with sugar not sure why he can't learn to eat and I will fix up some more without sugar in a little while when he starts to learn.

You can gently moisten the eye with cool tea or water using a Q-tip or cotton ball, see if there is crusty material but don't force it open. Repeat based on what you see.

Since others are fine, I think you have a dehydrated chick. Must get fluids in her.

Is chick less that 3 days old? If so you have a little time but if she is 3+ days you must get fluids in, NOW.
