My chicken is wheezing, feathers under her throat are missing. Her comb is very red (she is a leghorn) and her head is warm. She stretches her neck and closes her eyes when trying to breathe.

She is eating and drinking and I gave her some canola oil with an eye dropper. This only seemed to flummox her.

She is walking around and though playful she is moving and able avoid capture. But she is laboring so that I don't think she can withstand this situation much longer.

I am really sorry too hear that! i have a very ergent situation myself my hen just swallowed one of my hair ties! I think that you should continue to make sure she is eating and drinking consistantly. You may want to ask for perfessional help or visit a vet! I am not sure what is wrong with her, sorry

Just to let you know a chicken with a very red comb is in-fact a healthy chicken!

My bird is roosting in a cage isolated from the other chickens. The cage is comfortable for her but I can still the wheezing. I don't know if she can make through the night. Last night, she was in the coop with the other hens. I hope they have not been exposed to something contagious.

I would appreciate some practical experience.

Thanks

Sounds like she might have something stuck in her throat, does it look like she might have rubbed the feathers off? See if you can feel or see any thing in her throat.

Sick Chook, she started to make a strangled kind of noise and stretch out her neck repeatedly. She was struggling to breathe in and out. Her comb went much darker than usual and her eyes started to close up and go a bit glazed. Altogther an unhappy chook. The vet suggested we euthanize. Now we are wondering what exactly it was so we can protect/treat the rest of the flock.
