We are looking to get our first ever chickens. We have decided on the Dominique breed, and have found several breeders that ship, but our city only allows us to have 4 chickens and all the online places I've found have a minimum order of 15 chickens. Does anyone know of any breeders (must be willing to ship) that will sell us just 4 or 5 total chickens?? Thank you for your help!!!!!

Try mypetchicken.com one time our city would not let us do it either, so we shipped it to our friends post office and picked it up there. You can always try that.

Try Meyer Hatchery in Ohio. They supply some of Mypetchicken's chicks, and charge you less. You can get as few as 4. Beware of high shipping costs with a small shipment--It actually costs nearly the same as having 25 chicks shipped because of the extra filler and heat packs. If you get 15 you will still save--just try to sell the extra chicks locally.

I agree with the idea of ordering the 15 and then selling the extras. You might have losses and with a small shipment you won't have replacements. Most hatcheries will refund you the amount of the chick but once you factor in shipping costs for a small order, you're really losing out. I had no problems selling our extras from our first shipment on craigslist. Fingers crossed the next order coming in on the 17th goes as smoothly. I'm probably going to hold onto them a little longer (I sold the first group at about a week) so I can be picky about who I keep. I had a number of inquires about started pullets and laying hens also. You might also put an ad on craigslist that you are going to order and see if someone wants to go in on it with you.
