I have 37 chickens, about 5 of them are constantly getting sick, bubbly eyes, wheezing, and this has been hatching for about 7 months. We get it under control then we find 1 of the 5 sick again. Need to know what it might be, and how to treat it.

Have you taken any of them to the vet? Treated with antibiotics? It sounds like something they are passing back and forth, amazing that none of the others have gotten sick.

You might especially look at mycoplasma gallisepticum as a potential cause. Please note that in order to be able to tell for sure, a necropsy might need to be sent off. You can contact your state vet or county extension agent for information.

Some diseases (MG) allow the disease to pass from hen to chick through the egg (vertical transmission) and thus if you get a diagnosis you might choose to cull the entire flock if your hopes were to sell hatching eggs. Please research it though as I am telling this from memory of what I had read.

(Just a mention here...many people opt to keep a closed flock and treat the ones that get stressed and show symptoms every year. Others note that they treated and it didn't come back, but they are still carriers.)

If there is a very bad smell around the chickens' face, it could be coryza I have read, but don't know the exact symptoms and the difference in symptoms between that and MG without reading a reference.

Been treating with duremaycin, nurturing, and vet ex, not just those 5, the entire flock. Daily. Duremaycin in the water. Vet ex in the nose and nutridrench down the throat.

Unless you are experienced with treating this type of illness, I would still find a vet who is experienced with birds. You run the risk of losing the lot of them by guessing. I hope the best for your birds.

I took my little hen to the vet last week, cost me $45 but she got two shots and is doing so much better this week. So funny, she cost me less than $5, but I have already spent 10 times that to care for her. Oh well, it's only money!

i'd rather pay money one the birds to help them so i wouldn't lose my whole flock and if their adults and u raised them from chicks u put a lot of money into the bird for all the feed and bedding and stuff and plus my birds are my babies i have a young rooster he is like a dog lol
