Maybe here I can get some help, since nobody's answered so far.
I have a wild mallard duck egg that was abandoned by its mother over a week ago, and I rescued it last Monday. She'd been sitting on these eggs for about a month, laying new eggs all the while. The other eggs that were left were rotting, this one was slightly warm. I brought it inside, wrapped some towels and a heating pad around it, set the heating pad on high, put it in a cardboard box, covered that with a towel, and put a lamp shining over all of this. I hoped it would work, and so far, the egg remains pretty hot.
However, when I candle it, I can see veins going into the darkness. Otherwise, I can see light gray splotches on the outside of the shell. It doesn't stink. Is something wrong?

I don't know much about mallards but I read that their eggs only take 28 days to mature. So if it's been significantly longer, I would say it's not a viable egg? I don't know much about candling either. Can you see it move?

The darkness is a duck for sure, I know it's fertilized, and I think we may be around day 28, maybe not though. It's impossible to tell, I dunno when she laid this egg specifically. I can't see it move, since the egg is mature, and the duck is taking up most of the space inside.
