I have a hen that has a odd bit of growth near hear tail and she has been breathing heavily, swatting down, and she will not eat or drink. She spends all day in her nesting box? She has been like this for 2 days and I am starting to get worried! Today I noticed that it looks like there might be an egg that will not come out. Is this because of the hot weather? Is there anything I can/should do? will she survive? Any advice? Please help!

Your hen sounds like she is egg bound. This is a medical emergency. There are ways to deal with it, but you have to do it fast if its been this long a time. Egg binding can be due to a deformed or soft-shelled egg, a weak chicken, or an egg that is too large.

Hope she gets better!

Here are some methods to help:

Some hens passed eggs on their own, but it sounds like she can't.
Try using KY jelly, kasaline, or some other lubricant and rubbing it up inside of vent (you might want gloves for this)
Try gently massaging the egg towards the exit
A warm, moist, steamy environment is suppose to help, such as near a running shower (not in it, just near it)
If none of this helps you may need to get her to a vet for surgery, if that is an option

Best of luck!
