My button quail went broody and hatched two chicks. I had to remove the male as he was pecking at the chicks. Now it's just her and her chick's in the enclosure. The male is now in his own but calls to her constantly.
Here's the thing. She is being good with letting them snuggle in her wings but when she gets up and they start walking she grabs the dark one by the wing and tosses it. Over and over. She won't let them do much but stay under her. I don't understand why she is flopping it around by the wing. It is not hurt, it doesn't cry when she does this. With the male, you could tell he wanted to hurt the chick.. mom isn't trying to hurt it, she just wants to flop it around like a bouncy balloon.
She doesn't do it to the yellow one as much as the dark one.
Should I just separate them and put back the roo with her? I have six 12 day old button chicks the babies could go with.. or is that not going to work either?
