I can find a lot about behavior before their first egg, but I have a 25 week old silkied serama who layed her first tiny egg yesterday. She sat on the egg a while, but came off easily when I offered her watermelon!

Today she did not lay and egg and seems tired. She was walking around today fine, but seems funny. Any thoughts?

A hen sometimes sits on the nest for a while after she has layed. The being tired seems a little strange, but not too strange. Some chickens go broody and if she part Silkie that may be the case. After a hen lays their first egg they don't lay the next day. It usually takes a while before they start laying every day. I would keep an eye on her, though, just in case something is wrong.

Thanks! I know those "symptoms" are so generic but she's my sassy one so its weird for her to be so calm/tired seeming. I'll see how she is in the AM.

She seemed ok this morning.. Walking around, eating and drinking fine. She is more docile and no egg today either, but I'll keep my eye on her. I'm going away for two weeks and leaving them with a sitter so I may be overly anxious about that!

I think your hen will do fine. During the summer I usually leave for a week or two and out of the seven years of raising chickens I've only had two die while I was gone. One died because of a disease and the other was an older hen and she wasn't doing well. I haven't lost no young hen who is starting to lay, yet. If your hen does not have a deadly disease, I wouldn't worry about your young hen.
