We currently have a flock of 13 working to grow it larger. We have 3 roosters and 10 hens. I am noticing whenever a rooster tries to breed with a hen, the other hens attack him to make him get off her. Why are the hens so aggressive toward the rooster? Roosters are getting along right now, i know we will have to cull one or two soon, but the boys do not seem to be the problem in this situation.

How old are they? It sound like the males are still cockerels and you have some mature hens in the flock. Mating is a form of dominance. Your dominant hen won't accept that an immature cockerel can mate when in her presence because that would mean he was dominant, not her. Eventually he will mature enough that he will take over the dominant position, that could mean a fight between him and the dominant hen.

If it is a matter of maturity, it is all pretty normal.

That would make sense. 6 hens are about 2 years old, roosters are about 5 months old. Thank you for this information, i was getting worried for my boys!
