Hi folks,

one of my hens was rather quiet today, sitting quite a bit and seeming to limp. We managed to catch her to see if she has bumblefoot or an injury. She doesn’t appear to have any obvious issues and was able to run away fine when we tried to catch her. Could this simply be a strain that will heal on its own? Also she’s 21 weeks and hasn’t laid any eggs yet. Maybe she’s just feeling “eggy?”

Does she put weight on the leg or hold it up? Is there any swelling, green bruising, redness or cuts along the entire leg and foot? Are the toes culed under? If possible you could upload a short video to YouTube with a link posted here, so that we can see how she walks. With an injury, it might be good to force her to rest the leg in a dog crate or pen with food and water.

She may have a leg or foot sprain.
You could separate her in a crate with her own food and water. The would help her heal faster if it is a sprain.

She can put weight on it but favours the other one. No signs of swelling or bruising. I’m wondering if my roo was too rough with her. We will keep her penned maybe tomorrow to try to get her to heal a bit. Thanks!
