She was attacked by an animal a good few weeks back and it had started to smell. So I've been cleaning her wounds once a day and injected/ poured some penicillin for seven days to her wound. She has a small opening to the wound that appears to growing back meat (as I call it) The wound still stinks but not as bad as it used to for sure. She is a normal hen, eats and drinks... poops and like to take sand baths and dig through scraps. One question I have is will the small opening which less than 2 inches get sealed up?

Glad to hear she's healing.

Yes, the wound will close up in time and you probably won't even be able to see it once the feathers cover it.

Keep an eye on it as you've been doing and she'll be better before you know it!

thank you.
I'm glad I didn't have to put her down

squirting the wound with saline solution to clean out any debris..then dabbing using gauze, with watered down Betadine will help with infection and healing.
you can get sterile saline solution at any pharmacy ..including Walmart...
good to have on hand and not expensive.

I swear by Wonder dust, an iodine laced styptic which is great at drying up the wound and preventing infection. I use it on horses, goats, and chickens. Not on dog s or cats cuz they'll lick at it, but the farm species, I don't know how I''d get along without it!
