Hen attacked by dog. Bloody tail.

I have a California White hen that was attacked by a dog three weeks ago. Some of her tail feathers were ripped out but she was otherwise unhurt. The tail feathers have started to grow back but every few days I've noticed that they've been bleeding. I'm suspicious that the other hens might be pecking at her injury and causing it to bleed. Is there anything I can put over the tail to prevent more damage? I can't keep her in the house and its too cold outside for me to take her away from the other hens. I'm very worried about infection if this keeps happening.

Hmmmm.... Maybe you could keep her away from the other chickens and see how she does?

Yes, I think the best course of action is to get a cage and keep her away from the others for a few days to let her recover. Just keep her environment and wound clean. Chickens don't like being alone, but when they're recovering from an injury it lets them heal in peace. Good luck!
