Hen chasing a Rooster off of a different Hen?

OK, I had no idea how to title that

I am still waiting for eggs, and I haven't seen any mating until tonight, when one of my roos jumped on a hen ... and then another hen immediately ran up and pecked him, and he jumped off. Is that normal? I wouldn't have been surprised if it was another rooster, but I was surprised to see the hen chase him off.

I am assuming mating behavior is another sign that we are moving closer to getting eggs, right?

At around this age roos start maturing and they start to mate with hens and you should be getting some eggs in a month time. Your hen may be in top of the pecking order instead of your roo.

I would assume that as the roos mature more, one of them will take over as highest in the pecking order? Right now, I have three roos - two RIRs and one bantam. The bantam has been crowing for a week or so, the RIR aren't yet.
