I have a hen that has decided she wants to sleep in a pet carrier under our carport instead of in the coop with the others. They are not crowded, only 4 hens and 1 rooster in a 10x10 converted dog kennel. They free range all day on about 2 acres. She is the "boss" hen and is the rooster's favorite along with the other older hen. She came up missing 2 nights, but showed up the next morning and went about business as usual with the flock. Tonight I found her in the pet carrier. I just left her there until I can figure out what's going on. May not be the safest place to sleep since we live in the country, but oh well... any ideas what might be going on? She's still laying and acting normal..

Maybe she doesn't feel safe there? Try using nesting boxes or milk crates in the coop. Ideally hens shouldn't sleep in them but some prefer to. Maybe the coop is too tall and open for her liking.
