Hi fellow duck parents - it's been a minute since I've posted cuz things have honestly been fine. Bumble is still a problem that keeps me and my vet on high alert but all in all everyone has recovered, I've gotten real good at my own minor duck vet capabilities at home and all my Heathers are doing GREAT! Mostly because of this community. I'm overcome with gratefulness.
So today's question isn't a problem by any stretch - it's a behavioral thing I've noticed and was just wondering if you've experienced the same and might have some insights.
Beverly is a Welshie, is 100% the runt of my flock of 5, has had at least 6 vet visits over the past 2yrs because of bumble (3 for each foot and her vet adores her like I do). Her feet have been super healthy for the past 3mo, she was a little broody earlier this week but now she's not and for the past two days she's suddenly being an asshole to Bela.
For context - Bev is one of three day-old Welshie hens I adopted from Metzer 2yrs ago. I added two Cayuga duckling hens to the flock about 6mo later. Bev seems to have bonded with the other Cayuga named Lili (Bela's sister).
While all 5 are definitely a flock there are def loyalties between the 3 Welshies and the two Cayuga's. That being said- with Bev's affinity to Lili, is she being an asshole to Bela because she's jealous of her sisterly connection to Lili?
Now that I'm typing this out.... I'm feeling a little ridiculous. It sort of seems like a Romeo and Juliet situation between houses..... Minus all the death.
Any behavioral insights you could share would be hugely helpful.
THANK YOU!
P.s. sharing a flock pic for attention and cuz I just love them so much
