Something heavy fell on my 22 week old RIR hen' foot about 24 hrs ago. She is limping bad. She has her foot up all the way to her chest when limping although she's hunkered down 95% of the time. No blood, no open wounds. Foot is a little swollen. She has soaked in Epsom salt water mix, eating some feed, eating some Greek yoghurt with rooster booster mixed in it, drinking some water with electrolytes in it. She's in a corner hunkered down separated from the flock but visible. WHAT OTHER TREATMENT/CARE SHOULD BE GIVEN? Anything for pain? I know shes in pain. Thanks

Sorry to hear about your pullet.

Do you have photos of her foot?

If you feel you must give something for pain, Meloxicam would be a good choice if you have that on hand.
Otherwise, you can give her 1/2 of a 81mg low dose aspirin twice a day for a couple of days.

Did the object fall on the foot/leg or on her like her back?

As for what to do, she has swelling, so an epsom salts soak may help reduce swelling a little, but it's going to take time for inflammation to go down. Sounds like she's self-limiting activity and babying her foot/leg, which is what we all seem to do when injured. I'd make sure she's able to get to food/water and that she has some cushy bedding to hunker down in.

She is 22 weeks old. She prefers to get up to the roosts probably cz that is their "normal". She struggles. But she is not staying low. Something heavy fell on her foot. What's a "low dose" aspirin? I can probably get photos tomorrow..

So she's still able to get on the roosts?
If she is, then likely she doesn't need any pain medication.

However, you may want to go out early and get her from the roost and set her own the floor/ground so she's not jumping from the roost and potentially prolonging the injury from healing.

You can find Low Dose aspirin at stores like Walmart, CVS, etc. Name brand or generic is fine.
