HI all,
I've got a D'uccle named merry who has been acting just a little off lately, and I'm not sure if it's a depression type deal or something else. A little back story on her: she is one of my original 4 hens and I loved the d'uccles so much I had 2 of them and then a bantam cochin and easter egger for my first 4. this past november A hawk killed one of my D'uccles (pippin) who merry was closest to. Shortly after the attack I was able to integrate my second group of hens which included a small crested cream legbar, who mary became attached to. Well a few weeks ago during a short free range that jerk hawk got my legbar. Now I notice merry is tending to be hanging in the coop alone while the rest are out in the run, or she hangs by herself in the run. She's eating and drinking normal, just acting kind of secluded. I was thinking of bringing her in to make sure nothing is wrong, but I worry about throwing off the dynamics of the pecking order by bringing her in. She's the tiniest of the group, but because she's one of the originals shes higher on the pecking order. does it sound like she's just sad to have lost her closest buddies, or does it sound like something I should be more concerned about?

They are protected from hawks now that they're on lockdown in their run all the time as it is surrounded on all sides and top with hardware cloth. Today she was out in the run with the flock, so maybe yesterday she just really wasn't feeling up to being around everyone else more so than usual :/
