My 11 mo old Black Copper Marans eyelid started swelling some time last week. It had a yellowish crust for the last couple of days. Now her eye is almost swollen shut, and the exposed eye is covered in goo. She does have ocular marek's, not sure if that's related. No changes in behavior, she is still eating, drinking, foraging, and laying. No weight change either. Any idea what's wrong?

Other side. Not sure what that yellow stuff on her comb is.

She also has some minor wounds on the comb and earlobe, so she may be getting pecked by somebody. She may have gotten pecked in the eye. I would use some warm, wet compresses to loosen up the gunk and clean it off, flush the eye out well, make sure there is no debris in there, with sterile saline or eye wash, and then apply terramycin eye ointment (many tractor supply stores carry it) or plain neosporin to the eye 2 or 3 times a day. Another possibility is a respiratory infection, but the other eye looks ok. If there is any discharge from nares or beak along with the eye, or any wheezing, coughing, or sneezing, then I'd suspect a respiratory issue. If she does have Marek's, that weakens the immune system and can make them more susceptible to other things. I would also do some observing to make sure she's not getting picked on, including at roosting time, and that she's still seeing well.

Thanks for responding! I will keep an eye out for respiratory symptoms, as that was one of my worries. Glad to know it might just be a peck injury.
