I have a little Mille Fleur girl, about 1.5 year old. She recently stopped laying and eating. Now she won't walk. She has had the Marek's vaccine also. I pick her up and she just sits down. Kind of wobbly. She won't walk around for anything. She is negative for worms and no lice/mites. Her crop is empty. Any ideas on what I can try, what do you think could be wrong? I felt for an egg, but can't feel one. About a week ago, she had laid a couple soft eggs. Any help is appreciated! I am at a loss. Just spent $500 on another sick hen, and I can't do it again! Anyone who lives in the Bay Area that thinks they can take her, get her healthy?

It could be a number of things. She could be laying internally or have reproductive issues. Is her abdomen swollen or hot?how long since she laid? Have you done a vent exam? How is her breathing? Any other clues to what might be going on? Is she straining as if to lay an egg? Any discharge from her vent? Does she seem very sleepy and lethergic? are her feathers ruffled? Any clues at all could help. Did you know even though birds are vaccinated for Marek's 6% of vaccinated birds sadly will still acquire Marek's. Is she displaying Marek's type symptoms? Is she paralyzed in any way? Are her legs in a non natural position? Are her toes curled up? Sorry for all the questions its just the more information the better. Can she walk at all? What happens when you try to make her walk? Can you post a picture of her and her legs? Is she laying on her side? The more details you can give the better we can help. I wish you the best. Once you post more details perhaps we can help.

Hi, thanks for the help. So I took some more pics, right now there is no discharge, no egg felt inside, no curled toes. However, when I make her walk she limps and kind loses her balance. She went limping to the water but won't eat. Her abdomen is not swollen or hot. She seems kind of lethargic as she just sits where I put her. She won't jump or even move. So she won't climb into the coop either. I'm at a loss. No parasites that I know of, but she just pooped a bright whitish yellow poo. She is fluffed when she sits. But I'm at a loss! Her last egg was over almost 2 weeks ago.

What a beautiful breed! Her tail appears to be still up - i notice when my hens are sick or in pain their tail goes down .... I hope someone can suggest something helpful for you.

She's a cutie--I have a 2 year old mille fleur that jumps up on my shoulder if I don't pick her up. Her poop looks as though it is full of urates (the white part that is urine), so does she have those often? Gout and kidney failure might be a possibility. Does she have any swelling of her feet--it probably is hard to tell with those feathered legs and feet. Was she ever on layer feed as a chick, or have you ever had infectious bronchitis (IB) in your flock or your neighbors' flock? High calcium feed as a chick and IB can cause kidney failure later on.

She was on medicated chick feed until they were about 3 months old. She has been having this yellowish poo for al least a week. What is gout? Her feet don't look swollen at all, but what worries me is she won't eat anything! I made eggs, yogurt, mash, worms!!!! Nothing. She only drinks. I'm so sad because she is my baby, so sweet and loves to be in my lap. :***<
