Good morning, all!

I've had a great time reading through the fun, informative posts on BYC!

While many of my questions have been addressed in other threads, I wanted to submit some photos of the new hen house with a couple of questions specific to it. There are 12 hens & 2 banties going to be living in this coop.

I'd like to put the roost bar on the garage wall side of the coop - this wall:

Question: will one 6' long 2X4 be long enough for 12+2 birds?

Here are a few more pics:

Another wall that the roost bar could go on:

Thank you for your consideration! maureen

greenpeeps!!! What a GREAT idea! I never even considered that! Well, duh! You have the brain cells I'm missing!!!

As you can see, it's not a huge space, and I've been thinking a lot about how to lay it out. Thank you! maureen

6 ft won't be enough for 14 birds. Could they all get up there? Sure. But it'd be tight and if there's any conflict within the flock whatsoever someone will end up on the floor. Just put up two, staggered, so they have room to spread out.

You could put the 6' roost about 2' from the wall and then kind of make a ladder of sorts. Attach 2' pieces every 2' apart and have those attach to the wall. Am I making sense? I did this in my coop and it works great. All 22 of them huddle up on the roosts and it's so cute! Uh, gorgeous coop by the way!!

Thank you all for your thoughtful responses! I will definitely add length to the upper roost and stagger a 4' section, "ladder style," a little lower, as well.
