Hen in a hurry maybe?

This morning we got our first weird egg. We have 8 RSL's that have all been laying for different lengths of time (one as long as 5 weeks now, the latest just this week) and this morning I found a white, thin shelled egg under the roost, not in the nest. Other than that is was a good large sized egg and the egg itself was perfect. It was actually quite interesting to me..... just wanted to share.

So I take that back.... we got our first TWO weird eggs. Here's is the second one from my last collection (I collect twice a day, early morning towards noon).



Here's what I am wondering... last night we ended staying out late. Usually we lock the girls up just after nightfall but last night it was 1am when we came home and DH locked the girls up. We have a few that like to go up on the roof occasionally. Did he scare them and this is the result? He said that they squawk or "sound" alarmed. Hmmm....

ETA: This egg was almost ALL yolk.

I'm certainly no expert as I'm new to this game but I've got much the same going on. Have one RSL that's been a consistent layer since we got her over a month ago. Also have two BSL that came as pullets. One began laying last week. We first had an egg with no shell at all and then an egg with a rubber shell. Then she laid consistently for three days with wonderful hard shells.

The night of day #3 we had an absolutely horrific storm. It thundered and poured for about two hours.

The next morning we found an egg white only on the poop board, she laid that while she was roosting. No egg from her that day. The next morning was the rest of the egg, a thin shell and only a yolk on the poop board. Early this morning was a rubber-shelled egg laid in front of the nesting box.

I have no clue but have to wonder if that horrible storm frightened her out of her routine. She was doing grand for three days and now we're back to wacky eggs. I've been giving them some extra protein, dried egg shells and oyster shell plus they're on layer feed. No reason she shouldn't have enough calcium in her system if the other hen is laying consistent hard shelled eggs. Thinking that it takes some time for their systems to get the swing of this egg-laying thing!

I believe that it was the late night adventure that caused it. If it was they'll settle down.
