How does the hen get her chicks to the ground. The next box is 1 1/2 - 2' off the ground. Do we need to place a chicken walk to the ground??

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join us here! For me personally I would make a ramp or when she has finished hatching the eggs lift her and the chicks down so they can't fall or injure themselves. The learning centre has some good articles on broody hens in the hatching eggs section. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-and-raising-chicks

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC :frow

Yorkshire coop has given you a good tip and link so I'll just say hello and it's nice you're here!

Hi and welcome to BYC. I usually move momma and chicks to ground level once the hatch is complete - mum never tries to return to the nest (guess she's bored of being there for the past 3 weeks

). The link that you have been given is very helpful.

All the best and congrats

Thank you so much for your response. I wasn't sure if moving them would keep her from caring for her babies. Take care and have a great day.
