I have a Buff Orpington hen that is almost constantly getting "jumped' by our young rooster... then the alpha roo comes over.. chases that rooster off.. and mounts the poor hen that hasn't moved. She has started puffing up and almost acting broody - then running and trying to hide from the two would be Romeos. We moved her into our newly segregated chick pen with 24 chicks averaging 10 weeks old. She is fine with them, and is taking a much needed vacation from the guys. I feel a bit sorry for her because the flock free ranges during the day and she is currently sleeping alone on the roost, but the almost constant mating was making her crazy too. I have no clue if she is actually trying to go broody or if it was a defensive ploy to try to keep the boys at bay. I have plenty of other hens to keep 2 roosters happy.. no clue why they zero in on her all the time.
Question is: When we reintroduce her, will this behavior resume? Has anyone else had a similar experience?
