My hen is around 5-6 months old, and she has not had any health problems priorly, but all of a sudden, our of nowhere, our hen has become very sick.
She is a Plymouth Rock hen, and just yesterday, she was fine, but today, we found her lying in the dirt, unmoving. Her feathers are slightly damp and there is a yellowish substance on her butt feathers. Her eyes are cloudy and red instead of golden and she has them closed. Her eyelids are white, and her comb is paler than usual. She cannot stand by herself and she is very weak. I'm not sure if this is a disease or something she ate, but we don't know what is wrong with her. There aren't any signs of blood or broken bones, so I'm guessing the problem is internal. She will not move and just lies down. Her breathing is faint. She is too weak to eat or drink.
She is the only chicken in our coop besides a young male Game Fowl, and we have separated them for the time being. We also have 4 young bantam chicks and a Guinea Fowl, but they reside inside. We let her and the Game Fowl roam around the yard everyday with our dog, but he has never hurt them before. There have been sightings of a rat of two very occasionally inside our yard, but we always have the chickens inside the coop before dark. There are also many birds that come to eat her food; I'm not sure if this will help, though. We also live in Arizona, if this will provides any insight.
The Game Fowl does not show any symptoms, and our hen is very heat tolerant, and has never had a heatstroke. I wish to treat our hen without a vet, but I'm not sure if this will be possible.
Please help; We have honestly no clue what is happening to her. Any help is appreciated.
